A Note Concerning Indian English

Many Indians speak excellent English by any standards - arguably better than that spoken by many British citizens. But our purpose here is not to record the 'best' English speakers among the Indian population. Our purpose is to provide examples of English as it is spoken every day in India by ordinary people, in the hope of representing at least some of the sounds that make Indian English unique, just as we have provided sounds which are unique to Scottish English, and South African English, and so on. These variations in pronunciation are all part of the richness of the global language we call English, which no longer 'belongs', if it ever did, to one nation alone.
